Zhirkevich Mikhail Ivanovich ( Belorussian. Zhyrkevich Michail Ivanavich; October 13, 1899, Zalesovichi, Krichevsky District , Mogilev Region - August 13, 1984) - Soviet Belarusian linguist , honored worker of science of the BSSR, author of numerous textbooks in the Belarusian language.

Biography
From a peasant family. After receiving secondary education, he served in the Red Army, participated in battles with Polish occupiers. Demobilized in 1921, worked in elementary schools in the Krichev region. He graduated from the ethnological-linguistic department of the pedagogical faculty of the Belarusian State University. He taught Belarusian language and literature at the 2nd secondary Mogilev school, since 1929 - at the Mogilev State Pedagogical Institute, where he taught modern Belarusian language and literature courses and teaching methods with himself. Since 1943, he was appointed senior lecturer at the Department of Belarusian Language and Literature at the Belarusian State University .
In 1944, he defended his dissertation on the topic: “Yes, Methods of Padrunnik in Belarus Move” and received the degree of candidate of pedagogical sciences, the following year he was approved as an assistant professor.
Mikhail Zhirkevich is best known as the author and co-author of textbooks on the Belarusian language for secondary schools.
He appeared in print with articles on improving Belarusian spelling, teaching the Belarusian language in secondary and higher education, and established the development of Belarusian linguistics.
