Campo de la Cruz ( Spanish: Campo de la Cruz ) is a city and municipality in the north of Colombia , in the Department of the Atlantic .

History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded on May 3, 1634 [1] . The municipality of Campo de la Cruz was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1914.
Geographical position
The city is located in the southern part of the department, within the Caribbean lowland , west of the Magdalena River , approximately 61 kilometers south-west (SSW) from the city of Barranquilla , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 13 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Campo de la Cruz borders in the north with the territories of the municipalities of Candelaria and Ponedera , in the west with the municipality of Manati , in the southwest with the municipality of Santa Lucia , in the south with the municipality of Xuan , in the east with the territory of the Magdalena department . The area of the municipality is 144 km².
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 16,035 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 50% of the population of Campo de la Cruz, women - respectively, also 50%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 86.5% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 13.5% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 81.1%.
Economics
46.7% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 45.4% are service enterprises, 4.4% are industrial enterprises, 3.5% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transport
National Highway 25 passes through the city ( Spanish: Ruta Nacional 25 ).
