Biography

Vitaliy Shchedov was born on July 31, 1987 in the city of Simferopol, Crimean region of the Ukrainian SSR . He was trained at the Simferopol Specialized Children and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve in Cycling No. 1, at different times he was a ward of such specialists as V.V. Cherchenko , L.N. Polataiko , V.V. Klimov , R.V. Kononenko .

He first made his name in 2004, when he joined the Ukrainian national team and attended the European Junior Championships, where he won gold medals in two disciplines at once: the individual pursuit and the team pursuit.

At the 2005 European Junior Championships in Italy, he became second in the individual pursuit.

He achieved his first major success at the adult international level in the 2006 season, winning team silver and bronze medals at the World Cup in Sydney.

In 2007, he won the World Cup in Los Angeles and performed at the World Track Championship in Palma de Mallorca , where he won a silver medal in the pursuit team together with Lubomyr Polataiko , Maxim Polishchuk and Vitaliy Popkov - they were only beaten in the final athletes from the UK.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing - he started in team pursuit, along with Lubomyr Polataiko, Maxim Polishchuk and Vladimir Dudey , he was in the final protocol in ninth position. Also this season he added a few more medals from the World Cup to his track record, became the champion of Europe among the underders in individual pursuit [1] .

After the Beijing Olympics, he remained in the track national team of Ukraine and continued to take part in major international competitions. So, in 2010 he was the best at the World Cup stage in China and won the overall world cup standings, performed at the World Championships in Denmark , where he took sixth place in individual pursuit, fifth place in team pursuit and ninth place in omnium [2] [3 ] ] .

For outstanding sports achievements he was awarded the honorary title " Honored Master of Sports of Ukraine " [4] .
