Biography
Hubert Charuel was born on May 31, 1985 in Vitry-le-Francois, department of Haute-Marne in France, in a family of farmers. Before joining the cinema, he worked in the field of dairy cattle breeding.
In 2011, Hubert Charuel graduated from the production department of the La fémis film school in Paris [1] . His diploma short film "Diagonal of the Void" was selected to participate in several film festivals, in particular in Clermont-Ferrand. Charuel’s second short film, K-Nada, also took part in the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, and also won the 2015 Best French Short Film Award at the European Festival of First Films in Angers.
In 2017, Hubert Charuel made his debut in the feature film The Small Farmer , starring Svanne Arlo and Sara Girodo. The film took part in the Special Screenings program at the 70th Cannes International Film Festival 2017 and received flattering reviews from film critics [2] . In 2018, the film was nominated in 8 categories for the César French national film award, including as the best film, best debut film and for best directorial work [3] .
