Biography
The representative of the old Russian noble family of the Velyashevs .
Sister of Pelagia and Dmitry Velyashev-Volintsev . Their father, Ivan Andreevich Velyashev-Volyntsev , noted A.P. Golitsyn , was a philosopher-translator and engineer-major general . He taught military and mathematical sciences at the Artillery and Engineering Cadet Corps in St. Petersburg.
As in most cases with women writers of the Russian Empire who managed to publish their works in the 18th century, she grew up in a cultural family that supported the literary work of children.
Creativity
As a young girl, she wrote poetry, which attracted the attention of Catherine II , who attracted her to the imperial court.
Translated from French:
- “On the Count of Oxford and the Heron of Miladia” (English novel, writings of Madame Gomets, St. Petersburg, 1764);
- “A Thousand and One Hours,” Peruvian Tales (M., 1766-1767);
- "The history of Brandenburg, with three arguments about the mores, customs and successes of the human mind, etc., King of Prussia Frederick II" (Moscow, 1770).
Little is known about her work, however, like many representatives of female literature of the 18th century, she apparently published poetry anonymously or under the initials or pseudonyms. M.N. Makarov , who compiled a list of Russian writers in 1830, claims that her works are “published in many modern (at that time) magazines” , although she does not give specific names. And the fact that the verses of Anna drew the attention of Catherine II to her, may indicate that Anna Velyasheva-Volyntseva was more famous in the history of literature than her sister Pelageya .
