Biography
Mark Godbier was born on November 22, 1983 in the city of Taunton , Somerset , England . In his youth, he worked at a construction site, was engaged in interior decoration, had his own business selling plaster materials. Moreover, MMA came relatively late - at the age of 25 years [1] .
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in August 2009, having beaten his rival by technical knockout. He fought in small English promotions - he emerged victorious from most fights.
The first loss in his career was in November 2011 at the Supremacy Fight Challenge tournament, by technical knockout from Anthony Taylor [2] .
BAMMA and Bellator MMA
In the period 2012-2016, Godbair was a fighter of a fairly prestigious British organization BAMMA . Here he won a total of four victories, including winning and defending the heavyweight champion title [3] .
At the same time, in October 2013, he first performed in the USA at the tournament of the major American promotion Bellator MMA - as part of the heavyweight semi-final, he met with the representative of France, Chake Congo , but lost him by technical knockout in the second round.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
With 11 victories and only 2 defeats on the track record, Godbair attracted the attention of the world's largest fighting organization, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and in September 2016 signed a long-term contract with it [4] . He made his debut in the UFC octagon in November at a tournament in Northern Ireland - in a duel with Justin Ledet, he fell for a strangling reception from behind and had to give up [5] .
Todd Duffy was supposed to be his next opponent in March 2017, but he withdrew from the tournament and was replaced by newcomer Daniel Spitz . As a result, the confrontation between them lasted all the allotted time, and the judges unanimously gave the victory to Godbuir [6] .
In October 2017, a fight was planned against Walt Harris , but in the end Harris had to replace the injured Derrick Lewis in a fight with Fabrice Werdum , and Godbury was removed from the card of this tournament [7] . A month later, the fighters nevertheless met in another tournament, near the end of the first round, the referee disqualified Harris for having first hit Godbir in the groin, and then kicked him in the head after the team stopped the fight [8] .
In March 2018, he was supposed to go into a cage against the Ukrainian fighter Dmitry Poberez, but he withdrew from the tournament due to an injury and was replaced by Russian Dmitry Sosnovsky . In the second round, Sosnowski took Godbier to strangle from behind and forced to surrender [9] .
