
Butterfly with folded wings
Wingspan - 58-64 mm. The front wings are short and wide, brownish-gray in color with black zigzag transverse lines. Light midline clear and direct. The rear wings are crimson-red with a black zigzag strip in the center and a black wide strip along the edge.
Southern and partly Central Europe, North Africa, Western Asia.
Develops in one generation for the year. Butterflies fly in July - August. Butterflies are active at night. Often attracted to artificial light sources. Hibernate eggs. Fodder plants are several species of oak trees [2] . Pupation among the leaves of the forage plant in a wicker loose cocoon. Pupa brown [2] .
