History

In 1887, the construction of a water supply system in Tsarskoye Selo was begun. At that time, two water towers were erected according to the project of A.F. Vidov , Pevcheskaya (behind the Singing Wing of the Tsarskoye Selo Palace Board ) and Orlovskaya (at the Oryol Gate). The reservoir tanks had a volume of 10,000 buckets. Water was supplied by steam pumps from the Taitsky Canal. In addition to water tanks, there was also a power station in the Singing Tower. In the 1890s, additional extensions were made to the tower to increase the space for cars, boilers, as well as for workshops and a coal warehouse. In the 1920s the tower remained the reserve power station of the city, and it was used as a water tower until the 1950s. Later it housed an electric grid office, as well as restoration workshops. The building was empty for some time, in 2009, restoration began to be placed in the tower of the GuteZeit Center restaurant complex. In 2014, the first restaurants were opened [3] [4] .

Architecture

The 30-meter six-story tower is built in the eclectic style, in its design there are elements of brick style and Gothic. To the main volume of the tower there are extensions on the 1st and 2nd floors from the north, east and south sides. The facades of the tower combine decoration with red brick and white stucco. The bottom of the tower is covered with plaster rust, and the upper floors of the tower are decorated with stucco blades, rods, cornices with a toothed ornament, sandriks . The corners are decorated with niches with columns [3] [4] .
