DescriptionLarge moth Wingspan - 50-54 mm. The front fenders on the upper side have a complex pattern formed by thin toothed blackish lines and brownish bands. The fringe is grayish. The rear wings are dark yellow with a black mid-band that does not reach the rear edge of the wing. Fringed variegated - from yellowish and grayish areas. Abdomen top grayish-yellow.
In general, the view is similar to the Catocala neonympha, from which it differs by its large size, longer and narrow front wings, more pronounced and obliquely directed to the rear edge of the wings by the dark external border of the root field.
AreaSouthern and Central Europe, Caucasus, Transcaucasia, North Africa, Western Asia, South Urals.
BiologyDevelops in one generation for the year. Butterflies fly in June and July. Butterflies are active at night. Lead mostly hidden lifestyle. Often attracted to the wandering sap of trees and artificial light sources. Hibernate eggs. Caterpillar grayish color. Caterpillar forage plants are several species of oak trees [2] . Pupation among the leaves of the forage plant in a wicker loose cocoon. Pupa brown, with a bluish bloom; develops without diapause [2] .
