Reyes as part of Atlético

Born in the province of Seville , where he began to play football. He made his debut in the first Sevilla team in the 1999/00 season , but the footballer failed to gain a foothold in the first team, and in the first two years he entered the field in only two matches. However, gradually Reyes began to appear on the field more and more often. As a result, over the next three seasons, he played 84 matches, in which he scored 22 goals.

After that, the young midfielder came to the attention of the London Arsenal , where he moved in the winter of 2004. The amount of the transaction amounted to 17.5 million pounds [1] . As part of the English club, Reyes made his debut on February 2 in a match against Manchester City (2: 1), and two days later he scored his first goal against Middlesbrough .

For two and a half seasons spent in England, Reyes played in 110 matches, scoring 23 goals. Together with Arsenal, the Spaniard became the winner of the championship of England ( 2003/04 season), the owner of the national Cup ( 2004/05 ), and also reached the final of the 2006 Champions League . In the summer of 2006, the press reported that Real Madrid was showing interest in Reyes. The football player himself in an interview several times noted that he would like to return to his homeland. In the end, the patience of the head coach of the “Gunners” Arsene Wenger ran out, and the clubs reached an agreement on exchanging Reyes for Julio Baptista . At the same time, the rights to the Spaniard remained with Arsenal.

In the 2006/07 season, Reyes won the Spanish Championship with Real Madrid. The footballer entered the field in thirty games and scored six goals, two of which - in the last round match against Mallorca (3: 1) - brought the Madrid title. After the season ended, rumors appeared in the press that Reyes could go to Lyon , but on July 31, 2007 he was officially introduced as a player to Atletico Madrid . Arsenal received about 12 million euros for this transfer , and the player signed a four-year contract with the Madrid club.

On August 27, 2010, he scored a goal for Atlético in the UEFA Super Cup match against Internazionale (the meeting ended in a 2-0 victory for the Spaniards).

On January 5, 2012, the player signed a contract with Seville for a period until June 30, 2015 [2] [3] . The transfer amount amounted to 3.5 million euros [4] .

After Sevilla won the 2014/15 Europa League final over Dnipro (3: 2), Reyes became the first player in history to win the UEFA Cup / Europa League five times . In June 2015, the footballer extended the contract with Seville for 2 years [5]

On June 1, 2019, Jose Antonio Reyes died in a car accident on the 18th kilometer of the A-376 highway. Reyes was driving a Mercedes Brabus S550, moving in the direction from Seville to Utrera at a speed of 237 km / h [9] [10] . Together with Reyes, his two cousins ​​died [11] [12] .
