History
The formation of the 40th guards cannon artillery brigade (40th guards brigade) began in May 1944 in the village of Gorodynya (30 km north-west of Lutsk ), on the basis of the order of the USSR Non-Profit Organization dated May 15, 1944, “On Strengthening Artillery Armies by means of counter-battery fighting ”and the order of the Commander of the Forces of the 1st Ukrainian Front (1st UkrF) No. 0051 of May 21, 1944. “On March 31, 1936, by order of the NPO of the USSR in Odessa, the headquarters of the 6th Rifle Corps, on the basis of the training division of the 137th Artillery Regiment of the ARGK that arrived on June 16, 1936” [3] [4] , arrived from Chuguev of the Kharkov Military District and graduates of the Odessa Artillery School named after M.V. May 1, 1937 on the Kulikovo field in Odessa, the regiment was first sworn.
“From September 7 to September 14, 1939, the regiment was reorganized according to the state of wartime No. 04/804 and renamed the 229th corps heavy artillery regiment (229th ktap) and, as part of 10 echelons, was sent on a campaign from the railway station. “Since October 17, 1939, after the combat march through the territory of Western Ukraine as part of 6 SK KOVO [6], the regiment is deployed in s. Grushev of Yavorivsky district of Lviv region ” [4] .
In December 1939, 500 fighters and commanders of the 2nd division regiment were allocated to participate in battles with the White Finns.
June 22, 1941, already as the 229th corps artillery regiment (229th cap), the regiment was in Lviv special camps and was engaged in combat training. From June 22 to 30, the regiment conducted military operations on the Lviv ledge as part of the 6th Army [7] of the South-Western Front. In the Nagachev region, the regiment fought against the 1st Mountain Rifle Division (German 1.Gcb.) Of the Wehrmacht [8] . In mid-August, the regiment with the battles, having lost all the material, retreated to the left bank of the Dnieper River.
On August 16, 1941, the regiment left for reorganization in the village. Meadow of the Kursk region, now it became known as the 69th artillery regiment (69th ap), armed with 107-mm guns .
In October 1941, the regiment again engages in battle with the German invaders.
At the end of 1941, the 69th up took up defense at the turn of the North Donets River , where a task of great importance was successfully solved - the enemy could not force the river and was stopped.
For skillful actions during the offensive operation near Izum in early 1942, the regiment was awarded the title " Guards " [9] .
On June 28, 1942, the Guards Banner was presented to the regiment, and the regiment became known as the 69th Guards Artillery Regiment (69th Guards Ap). All year the regiment fought fierce defensive battles in the Caucasus. And in January 1943, the regiment was promoted to the area of the city of Novorossiysk as part of the North Caucasus Front.
At the initiative of the collective farmers of the Tambov region to raise funds for the front, soldiers and commanders of the 69th Guards. APs contributed 365 thousand 753 rubles to the account of the field State Bank [10] . And on April 1, 1943, the Decree of the USSR PVS on awarding the regiment with the Order of the Red Banner [11] was transmitted by radio.
On September 16, 1943, during the fierce fighting, the city of Novorossiysk was liberated. The regiment, by order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief (VGK) No. 13, was given the honorary name " Novorossiysk " [12] .
On October 9, 1943, the operation to liberate the Taman Peninsula ended and the regiment was transferred along the railway to the city of Zhitomir. In the second half of December 1943, the regiment breaking through the enemy’s defenses near Brusilov, conducted offensive battles in the direction of Berdichev - Komsomolsk as part of 18 A of the 1st UkrF.
For the assault and liberation of the city of Berdichev, the regiment, by order of the Supreme High Command No. 56 of January 6, 1944, was awarded the Order of Suvorov, 2nd degree [13] .
In May 1944, the regiment departed for the formation of the 40th Guards Cannon Artillery Brigade.

The 76th guards cannon artillery Red Banner Regiment is the assignee of the 602nd cannon artillery regiment, which was formed from August 24 to September 28, 1941 in the town of Kosyachevo near the town of Shuya. On November 8, 1943, the regiment was reassigned to 38 armies of the 1st Ukrainian Front . and on November 11, along with the infantry, it successfully crossed the Dnieper south of Kiev, and until the end of January 1944 held the bridgehead. On the night of February 1 to February 2, 1944, having lost all the materiel and 30% of the personnel, the regiment left the encirclement.
April 27, 1944, after the formation in Zhitomir , the 76th Guards. Pap was transferred by train to the area of the town of Torchin , having joined the 3rd Guards Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front, until July led counter-battery combat with enemy artillery. On May 25, 1945, for the courage and valor in the battles for the capture of Berlin, the brigade was awarded the highest award - the Order of Lenin .
