Biography
Born in Sicily, then moved to Rome in search of happiness. The birth name is Rosario Urzì.
In 1949, Saro Urdzi met the director Pietro Jermi, who offered him a role in the film “In the Name of the Law”. For his role in this film, Urtsi was awarded the Silver Ribbon film award in the nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Urdzi was a favorite actor of Jermi, they worked together in such films as: “The Way of Hope” (1950), “Railway” (1956), “Facts of Murder” (1959) and “Alfredo, Alfredo” (1972). The main role in the famous film Pietro Jermi “Seduced and Abandoned” (1964) brought him the award for “Best Actor” at the 17th Cannes Film Festival and another award “Silver Ribbon” to the best actor in 1965.
He also played Don Camillo (a character from the story of the Italian writer Giovannino Guareschi) and in the films “ Put the Devil ”, “Bread, Love and Jealousy” (directed by Luigi Comencini), “The Woman from the Straw” and “The Godfather”.
