History

Own His Imperial Majesty the Convoy was partially transferred to Tsarskoye Selo from St. Petersburg in 1858 and housed in private homes in Sofia . When Nicholas II permanently settled in Tsarskoye Selo, the personal guard, which included the Convoy, was completely transferred to the city, and initially, in 1895, wooden barracks-barracks were built for the Convoy. New brick barracks were laid in 1914, they were built according to the project of architect V.N. Maksimov . The complex was attended by residential barracks, stables, administrative, educational, and warehouse premises. By 1916, two buildings from the planned complex were erected. Further construction was interrupted by the October Revolution , and the front buildings of the complex were never built. After the revolution, the buildings were transferred for use to the Institute of Dairy Cattle Breeding, later called the Leningrad Agricultural Institute, now St. Petersburg State Agrarian University . The buildings were badly damaged during the Great Patriotic War in 1954-1957. restored with simplified decoration under the guidance of architect L. Ya. Rotinov. In front of the building in 1962, a monument was erected to V.V. Dokuchaev by the sculptor I.V. Krestovsky. Today, buildings continue to accommodate the educational buildings 2 and 2a SPbGAU [3] [4] .

Architecture

The complex was erected in a pseudo-Russian style , as well as a number of surrounding buildings ( Theodorovsky Cathedral , Theodorovskiy Town , House of War , etc.). It is decorated with numerous towers like ancient Russian fortresses, whose tents are crowned with weathercocks with images of St. George the Victorious and a warrior with a bow. The complex shape of the buildings is inscribed in the landscape of the Alexander Park. The details of the buildings are extremely diverse: the windows are arched, rectangular, elongated and square double, with different shapes of platbands, sandriks - both relief and recessed in the wall. The facade of the northern building is interesting with an arched driveway gallery on barrel-shaped pylons and rich platbands . The barracks have two courtyards, they have five passageways through the arches that share the premises intended for different hundreds of convoys [3] [4] .
