Long Beach is a city in California , USA . Located in the southern part of Los Angeles County , on the Pacific coast, 30 km from downtown Los Angeles . From the south, Long Beach borders on Orange County . Long Beach is ranked 38th in terms of population in the United States, 6th in California and 2nd in Los Angeles County. According to the census, the population of the city in 2009 is 492,682 people [1] . Signal Hill is completely surrounded by Long Beach.

The port of Long Beach is one of the largest ports in the world [2] . The city has a very developed oil industry, oil is found both under the earth's surface and under the surface of the seabed. In the city there are various enterprises, factories for the manufacture of aircraft, automotive parts, electronics and home accessories.
The headquarters are located in the city: the American division of the company Epson , the company Molina Healthcare. The development of high technology and the aerospace industry contributed to the formation of the city.

Geography
Long Beach is located about 30 km from downtown Los Angeles . According to the US Census Bureau, the total area of the city is 170.7 km², of which the land area is 130.5 km², the water surface is 40 km² (which is 23.42% of the total area). In the ocean bay, legally owned by the city, there are four artificial islands bearing the names of dead astronauts: Freeman (died in 1964 in a plane crash) [3] , Grissom , White and Chaffee - these three astronauts died in 1967 during a fire on Apollo- 1 [4] . The city also partially owns the island of Terminal .

The city highway in the city of Long Beach was used for the stages of the Formula 1 Grand Prix of the USA-West in 1976 - 1983 . Also, races of the American racing series are held on this track: IndyCar (formerly ChampCar ), American Series Le Mans , Formula DRIFT and Formula E
