History

Since ancient times, Kartvelian peoples have lived in the region. Among them are the legendary creators of metallurgy and seafarers: tubals and geniuses . In the 13th century BC here the ancient Georgian state of Diaoch was created, the northernmost province of which was Kola. In 1112 BC the kingdom was attacked by the Assyrian king Tiglatpalasar I , which significantly weakened the state. Then in the 9th century BC the region was occupied by another Assyrian king Salmanar III . In the years 810-760 BC the devastating wars of Diaoha with the kings of Urartu Menua and Argishti led her to complete disintegration. Entrance to the division of the kingdom, in 750 BC Kola, together with other northern regions, became part of another ancient Georgian state, Colchis , thus becoming its border with Urartu territory. [3] It was during this period that an interesting event took place: in the Urartian cuneiforms, the name Kolkh was first recorded. The fact is that this Urartian name of Colchis dates back to the region and the city of Kola, which in turn was the first on the way of the Urartians to the rest of Colchis. In the Urartian sources, the Hurrian affiliation suffix “ha” is added to the name of the region, in literal translation it turns out “people from Kola”. Thus, the Kola region gives the world-famous name to the country into which it entered. [four]
