History

The first building of the church was wooden, was located on the site of the prison castle, burned down on January 26, 1781 [3] .

The construction of the capital building was begun in 1786, in the process of work errors were discovered in laying the foundation, the building was dismantled, the foundation was strengthened and construction work began again. In 1832 the construction of the bell tower began, in 1846 the main part of the temple. The church building is a stone, one-story, five-altar. The throne placed on the second tier of the church was consecrated on April 24, 1846 in the name of the martyrs Flora and Laurus. In 1848, the main throne in the name of the Presentation of the Lord was consecrated, and one more of the thrones in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1850, the throne was consecrated in the name of Catherine the Great Martyr. The last was consecrated throne in the cold extension of the temple, in 1871 in the name of the Nativity of the Virgin [3] .

A church in the name of St. Panteleimon was assigned to the Sretenskaya Church. The parish included a chapel in the villages of Kirillova and Berdyugina, as well as a parochial school. At the disposal of the clergy there was a two-story house [3] .

In 1930, the church received the status of a cathedral of the Irbit renovation bishops. In 1932, the temple was closed, the service stopped. The building was used as a factory boiler room at the trailer plant [3] .

On December 19, 2008, the first service after the 76-year hiatus took place. Archbishop Yekaterinburg and Verkhotursky Vikenty (Morari) served in the service.

Architecture

The five-domed temple with a hipped bell tower was part of the fairground ensemble and was one of the main urban planning dominants. The architecture belongs to the “pseudo-Russian” style, but in the character of the volume-spatial composition, partially facade schemes, the techniques of classicism are traced. The author of the project is not known. The duration of the construction of the church, as well as the nature of its architecture, suggest the participation of different architects at each construction stage [4] .

The three-part volume-spatial composition of the building, consisting of the bell tower, the refectory and the temple itself, is subordinate to the longitudinal-axial pattern traditional for the churches of the 19th century. The two-light temple volume was covered with a hipped roof, decorated with five onion domes and kokoshniks [4] .

It is known from the surviving historical documents that the construction of the temple was completed in 1871, but the temple could have been decorated in the “pseudo-Russian” style only after 1870, when, in contrast to the stylist, European architectural styles created the preconditions for turning to national heritage. Front decorations appeared on the building, combining classical order forms with details borrowed from the decoration of the churches of the 17th century [4] .
