Dom publishers

DOM publishers ^[1] publishes practical tutorials, architectural guides, and monographs that focus primarily on contemporary architecture. Every year, DOM publishers publishes about 40 new books in German, English, Spanish, Italian, Russian and other languages. The authors of the publishing house are mostly practicing architects and architecture researchers. The name of the publisher refers to the English. Dome (in translation - "dome", one of the most important architectural elements) and Russian "House" ^[2] .

The peculiarity of the publishing program is that DOM publishers publishes both studies on the architecture of well-known and well-studied architectural centers, such as Germany, Venice, Madrid, Milan, the United Arab Emirates, and books on less popular in the professional environment and still insufficiently explored cities, such as Dushanbe, Yerevan, Caracas, Pyongyang, Slavutich and others ^[3] .

Many authors involved in the publishing house study the history of architecture and urban development of the Soviet Union . This orientation is reflected in the logo of the publisher, which is a capital letter " D " of the Cyrillic alphabet. The founder of DOM publishers, the architect and author of several books, Philip Moiser, was one of the first to study the history of industrial construction in the USSR ^[4] and in the world. In 2018, together with Dmitry Zadorin, he published the study “Towards a typology of Soviet Mass Housing ^{[5] [6]} ” (Toward a Typology of Soviet Typical House Building. Industrial Housing Construction in the USSR 1955-1991 ^[7] ) in Russian.

Also in the field of professional interests of the publisher is the architecture of African countries and the Muslim world ^[8] .

A special series of books is devoted to architecture and design for astronautics, in particular, DOM publishers published the first monograph ^[9] on the life and work of Galina Andreyevna Balashova , a Soviet architect who developed the interiors of several generations of Soviet spacecraft, as well as a series of pennants and the emblem of the Union program “Apollo .”

Since 2017, DOM publishers publishes the Yearbook of the German Museum of Architecture (DAM), which presents the latest architectural projects implemented in Germany ^[10] .

Together with the arch: speech portal, the publishing house is developing the on-line project “The Spirit of the Place ”, each material of which is dedicated to a specific city and its architecture. The project was created on the basis of architectural guides issued by DOM Publishers ^[11] .

• IPHS Book Prize ^[12] 2018 - The first prize in the nomination “The most innovative study in the field of urban planning in English” was awarded ^{[13] by the} Association of Historians of Urban Planning (International Planning History Society) to Wolfgang Sonne's book Urbanity and Density in Twentieth Century Urban Design ^[14] ”(Urbanism and building density in urban planning of the XX century).
• 26th All-Polish Book Prize in Geography and Tourism 2017 - The second prize in the Guidebook category was awarded to the Wrocław. Architectural Guides for Wroclaw and Gdansk Architectural Guide ^[15] ”and“ Danzig: Gdańsk Sopot Gdynia. Architekturführer ^[16] . "
• DAM Architectural Book Award ^[17] 2017 - Award of the German Museum of Architecture DAM awarded to the book “Baukunst im Archiv. Die Sammlung der Akademie der Künste ^[18] ”(Architecture in the archives. Collection of the Berlin Academy of Arts).
• ITB Book Awards 2017 ^[19] - The prize in the nomination “Special Series” was awarded to a series of architectural guides published by DOM publishers. Jury guides in Berlin ^[20] , St. Petersburg ^[21] , New York / Manhattan ^[22] and the United Arab Emirates ^[23] were specially marked by the jury.
• The 2014 Iconic Awards were awarded to the DOM publishers, a series of architectural guides by the German Design Council , and in 2016 the same series won the German Design Award Special.
