Tons , or barrels [1] ( lat. Tonnidae ) , is a family of marine gastropod mollusks .

Description
Large or medium sized clams. The shell of the representatives of the family have a spherical-oval shape. shell with 4–5 moderately convex turns, thin-walled with a short curl and round mouth. The surface of the sink is smooth. There is no operclum [2] [3] .
They live on a sandy and silty bottom at a depth of 5-80 meters. Predators feed on echinoderms , preferring holothurians . Saliva contains free sulfuric acid , as well as aspartic acid , which makes the echinoderms numb [4] [5] [6] .
