History
The labyrinth was originally the garden of King William III , planted in 1690 by George London and Henry Wise. Hornbeam trees were planted in the garden. In 1960, the hornbeam was replaced by yew .
In the literature
The Hampton Court maze was mentioned in C. Jerome ’s book “ Three in a boat, not counting a dog ”, when the character Harris wandered into the maze and people who could not get out of the maze approached him.
Experiences
The similarity of the Hampton Court maze is used for experiments with mice and rats. A piece of cheese is placed in the center. This experience showed the intelligence of rats that remember the road faster.
