Resurrection Church (Kyakhta)

The Resurrection Church is an Orthodox church , one of the monuments of Russian architecture of the XIX century in Transbaikalia. The temple was erected with donations from the Kyakhta merchants in 1830 - 1838 on the border with Mongolia in the village of Kyakhta (until 1934 - Troitskosavsk).

History

The first wooden Resurrection Church was built in the middle of the XVIII century. in the southeast corner of the walls of the Kyakhta fortress. In the 1810s it was decided to replace the stone.

A new church in the name of the Resurrection of Christ was founded on June 1, 1830. The temple was located about 30 fathoms north of the old one. The author of the project is Moscow architect Grigory Gerasimov. With him, the "warm" chapels in the name of the Mother of God of Kazan, St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, who consecrated in October 1834. Construction was completed in 1838.

The design of the iconostasis for the main aisle of the temple was completed by the architect Razgildeev. In 1848, the Archbishop of Irkutsk Nile approves the project - a bronze iconostasis with crystal columns and silver royal doors, a silver throne and altars.

The church had a rich finish. The volumetric-spatial composition of the Resurrection Church originally combined traditions and the latest achievements of the architecture of that time. [1] [2]

The height of the bell tower to the eaves of the roof is 15 fathoms, and to the top of the cross is 20 fathoms (42.60 m). The fourth tier housed the mechanism of the tower clock with battle.

The territory of the Resurrection Church was surrounded by a fence, consisting of massive stone pillars on a high base and a cast-iron grate.

The church was closed in the 30s of the XX century, it housed the warehouse of Spetstorg.

In 1996, the church was transferred to the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church .
