Season Overview
The tournament was held by the FICP under the auspices of the UCI . The tournament was sponsored by the French company Perrier [1] as a result of which it had the unofficial name "Coupe du monde Perrier" .
The tournament calendar has remained the same compared to last season and consisted of 13 one-day races held in Europe and Canada, one of which ( Grand Prix de la Liberation ) was held in the format of a team race with a separate start . A small change affected only the final race of the season . It was held in the Italian Bergamo and at the same time was held in the framework of two more races - the Italian Trophy Baracca and the French Grand Prix of Nations .
The tournament regulations remained the same. An individual rating provided for the accrual of points to the first 12 riders in each race (their number did not depend on the race). To be classified in the final ranking, the rider had to take part in 6 out of 10 races. The winner of the season was determined by the total amount of points earned regardless of the number of races held. Team rating was calculated according to a two-stage scheme. At the end of each race, the places of the three best racers of each team were summarized. [2] After which there was a ranking of teams by increasing the amount of places. Points were awarded to the top 10 teams in each race. The winner of the season was determined by the total amount of points earned regardless of the number of races held.

Notes
- ↑ La Coupe du monde . lesoir.be (11/25/1988).
- ↑ For example, if according to the results of the race the first three places were taken by riders from one team, then we get 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 - the sum of the team places according to the results of the race.
