Biography
Born in a farm laborer's family. He studied at the Kund Volost School, in 1905–1909 - at the Rakvere City School, in 1929–1931 - at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tartu . Since 1910 he worked as a teacher. In 1915-1917 he participated in the First World War , in 1919-1920 he was a participant in the War of Independence . In 1940-1941 he worked as the director of the Tartu Teachers' Seminary. One of the founders and board member of the (EAPS).
He started writing in 1912. In the short stories “Cement Factory” and “Boys from Yaksukyul”, Pariyygi portrayed the lives of children from the poorest sections of society with considerable skill. Pariyigi also published books: “From the Life of the Young” (1927), “Christmas, Christmas!” (1930), “Skiing in the Wallast” (1932), “Our Eku” (1937) and the story “Iron Man” (1937) . He wrote fairy tales for children, travel essays, critical articles and feuilletons. He also published history and mother tongue textbooks. Some of his works are considered classics of Estonian youth literature [3] .
On July 7, 1941, the NKVD was detained for interrogation. On the night of July 8–9, Pariyigi was among the 192 people shot in the Tartu prison [4] .
