After two previous not very successful releases ( Cats Without Claws and All Systems Go ), the record company Geffen refused to renew the contract with Donna Summer, which caused the release of the album in the United States to be postponed indefinitely. At this time, the album was released in Europe, and was a great success. However, American companies were skeptical, Summer still managed to sign a contract to release an album with Atlantic label.
The lead single “ This Time I Know It's for Real ” becomes a hit in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK, where the single manages to reach 3 places on the chart (this is Summer’s most successful single since 1977, when the single “ Love's Unkind ” was released). In the USA, the composition reached the 7th line on the Billboard Hot 100 chart .
In general, the album received positive reviews from critics. The disc was able to enter the tops of various world charts, in the UK it reached 17th position, and in the USA, due to long delays in finding a label, only 53 lines became the peak.
There is a myth that Stock Aitken Waterman planned to release the next album together with Summer in the UK, but there is a quarrel between them, and the plans never came true, later some of the tracks were given to Lonnie Gordon. The myth was refuted on Mike Stock's official Twitter account, which stated that tracks like "Happenin 'All Over Again" could not be written for Donna, as were written only after meeting with Gordon and exclusively for her.
In 2014, the album was re-released in the UK. The publication included three CDs, which contained the original album, remastered , elongated versions of songs, as well as remixes.
