The British Cemetery ( English Cemetery , Spanish Cementerio de los Ingleses ) is a necropolis in Madrid , Spain .

Currently, the cemetery is closed for new graves. An exception are cremated [1] .
History
The cemetery was opened in 1854 in a suburb of Madrid . In the same year, the first burials were made.
The number of buried is about a thousand people. Almost half of them are citizens of the British Empire. 63 Germans, 49 Americans, 30 Spaniards, 28 Swiss, 27 Frenchmen are buried in the cemetery, and the rest are citizens from 37 countries of the world [1] .
Among the buried are American artist Walter Shirlow , Russian diplomat Fedor Andreevich Budberg [2] and others. From 1977 to 1995, the remains of Irakli Georgievich Bagration-Mukhransky , who was later reburied in Georgia, rested in the cemetery.
