Ben Nguyen ( born Ben Nguyen ; born August 3, 1988 , Sioux Falls ) is an American mixed-style fighter , representing the lightest and lightest weight categories. He has been performing at a professional level since 2006, and is known primarily for participating in tournaments of the UFC fighting organization.

Biography
Ben Nguyen was born on August 3, 1988 in Sioux Falls , South Dakota . Under attack from classmates, at the age of twelve began to practice taekwondo . Later he was engaged in Thai boxing , judo , Brazilian jiu-jitsu .
Start of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in December 2006, fought in small American promotions mainly in South Dakota. Simultaneously with his career, he worked as a computer engineer.
In February 2009, at the Palace Fighting Championship, he met with Olympic bronze medalist in freestyle wrestling Alexis Viloy and lost to him by knockout in the second round.
In 2012, he went to train in Thailand at the Tiger Muay Thai & MMA camp, then settled in Brisbane , Australia .
He gained wide popularity in 2013 after a meeting in the title fight of Nitro MMA with Julian Wallace. Wallace, whose body is completely covered in tattoos, was extremely aggressive at the weigh-in ceremony, jabbing his fist right into Nguyen’s face. However, Nguyen knocked him out already at 25 seconds of the first round. The video with these events, posted online, began to spread rapidly on social networks - over a short period of time, more than 18 million people watched it on YouTube , the number of views on Facebook exceeded 100 million. Ultimate Fighting Championship
He made his first appearance in Octagon UFC in May 2015, met the Turkish Alp Ozkylych as part of the lightest weight category and won a technical knockout at the end of the first round [6] . A few months later, with the help of a strangulation from behind, he forced Ryan Benoit to surrender [7] .
His next fight was to be held in March 2016 against Justin Skoggins , but he withdrew from the tournament due to injury, and the fight was canceled. Nguyen, therefore, entered the cell only in July, losing by technical knockout to Louis Smolke [8] .
In November 2016, by a unanimous decision, he won against Gene Herrera [9] .
In June 2017, a fight was planned against Joseph Benavides , but Benavides was injured and was replaced by Tim Elliott . Nguyen forced the opponent to surrender already at 49 seconds of the first round and earned a bonus for the best performance of the evening [10] .
In February 2018, he fought with Brazilian Zhusierom Formigoy , in the third round he was strangled and was defeated by a technical surrender [11] .
