Mom Jeans is a slang term used to describe the style of high-waisted women's jeans , which was very popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s . In the late 1990s and 2000s , such jeans were mostly successful among middle-aged American women and were considered unfashionable among young women [1] [2] . In the 2010s, this style again became popular among hipsters and young women who follow the latest fashion trends [3] .
The term “mother’s jeans” was originally derogatory and was used as a curse word. The term became famous in May 2003 thanks to the popular American television program Saturday Night Live , in which actress Tina Fey used it for the fictional denim brand Mom Jeans, which was presented under the slogan “On this Mother’s Day, don’t give your mom perfume . Give her something that seems to hint: “I am no longer a woman ... I am a mother!” ”( For this Mother's Day, don't give Mom that bottle of perfume. Give her something that says, 'I'm not a woman anymore ... I'm a mom! ) [4] .

This style is usually a high-waisted jeans covering the navel , which makes the buttocks visually disproportionately long, large and flat. In addition, the "mother's jeans" has a large free space in the crotch and legs. Typically, these jeans are produced in a solid light blue palette without any fading effects .
Among other elements of the style, it is worth highlighting the folds , conical style of trousers and elastic belts . Often, “mother’s jeans” are complemented by a sweater , cardigan , blouse or shirt , which are refilled inside [5] . As shoes, preference is given to sports shoes such as sneakers or sneakers, to slip-on shoes - in the spring, flat sandals - in the summer, boots - in the fall and winter.

The term “daddy's jeans” was coined by popular media to derogate from high-waisted shapeless men's jeans that are in demand among middle-aged American men. This term gained popularity in 2009, when President Barack Obama was present in such jeans during the All-Stars game US Major League Baseball [6] [7] [8] [9] . In March 2015, Obama reappeared in “father’s jeans” during the filming of the comedy show “ Jimmy Kimmel Live ”, where he participated in the “Mean Tweets” section, in which he read out mocking tweets about jeans. After that, Jimmy Kimmel appeared on the stage in jeans with high waist and in a comic form tried to protect his outfit [10] .
