The NATO Summit in Brussels ( Eng. 2018 Brussels summit ) is the 29th summit of the heads of state and government of the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance , which took place on July 11-12, 2018 in Brussels at the new NATO headquarters [1] [ 2] .

This is the first NATO summit for Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez .
Agenda
On the first day of the summit, US President Donald Trump was in the spotlight. He not only called Germany “a country dependent on Russia”, publicly rebuking Angela Merkel for the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, but also set a new standard for the entire alliance, urging NATO countries to increase annual defense spending to 4% of GDP [3] .
On the second day of the summit, NATO leaders, under pressure from the US president, made the final decision to increase funding for the military sphere by $ 33 billion, raising their contributions to the Alliance’s total budget to 2% of their national defense budgets [4] . In addition, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg once again announced his desire to see Ukraine and Georgia as part of the North Atlantic Alliance [5] .
