History

The city estate on the corner of Bolshaya Dmitrovka and Stoleshnikov Lane at the beginning of the 19th century belonged to ensign Kozhin. The main house overlooked Bolshaya Dmitrovka, and the outbuilding was located on the side of the alley. M. Yu. Lermontov stayed with his university friend Tilicheva in this estate. In the middle of the XIX century, the estate was owned by the provincial secretary Zasekin, he rented out some of the premises. In the late 1840s - early 1850s, the photo shop of the Paisys Daguerreotype Institute was located here - one of the first in Moscow. It also housed the “Music Store” by P. Jurgenson and the office of the Russian Musical Society, in which N. Rubinstein received visitors. Many famous musicians visited the house [1] .

At the end of the 19th century, the property was owned by the merchant I. Savostyanov, in the 1900s he sold it to the merchant of the second guild P. Mozgin. With him in the mansion housed the “Craft Shop”. In 1911, a five-story apartment building was built in the courtyard of the plot in the neoclassical style (architect K. L. Rosenkampf ; house 20/5, p. 2) [1] . Before the revolution, the building housed the construction office of a civil engineer P. P. Visnevsky , where novice architects Vesniny brothers worked [2] .

In 1914, the son of a merchant M. Mozgin decided to build a new apartment building in the corner of the plot [1] . The construction was carried out by the architect N. A. Eichenwald , but was interrupted due to the First World War . It was possible to build only part of the first floor. In the 1920s, the site with long-term construction was transferred to the publishing house of the newspaper Pravda . For the completion of the building, the Pravdist housing and construction cooperative was organized, headed by the correspondent of Pravda, M. E. Koltsov . In 1925, the house was completed according to a new more modest avant-garde project of the same architect N. A. Eichenwald [3] . However, due to the similarity of the ZhKK Pravdist and the ZhK Zhir-Kost, built around the same time, it can be assumed that the constructive architect P. Kuchnistov was a co-author of Eichenwald [1] .

Mostly writers and journalists lived in the house: M. E. Koltsov, K. G. Paustovsky , R. I. Fraerman [3] , E. B. Pasternak , Efim Zozulya [1] , O. A. Gorchakov [4] . On the lower floor in Soviet times, there was a commissioned fur store with a stuffed wolf in the window [3] .

In the 2010s, the attic was reconstructed, and the inter-window vanes were finished in rust [1] .
