Biography

In service since 1846. In 1848, after graduating from the Naval Cadet Corps, he was promoted to midshipman and left for training in the Highest Officer Class .

From 1851 he served in the Baltic Fleet . Since 1853, the lieutenant of the frigate "Diana" under the command of S. S. Lesovsky . Since 1859, he was under General Admiral Grand Duke Alexey Alexandrovich . Since 1877, the participant of the Russian-Turkish war , for stewardship and courage during the descent of the pontoons along the Danube, was awarded the Golden St. George weapon [5] . In 1877 he was promoted to Rear Admirals of the Suite of His Imperial Majesty .

In 1887 he was promoted to vice admiral . In 1902, admirals . He was awarded all orders up to the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky with diamond signs granted to him on May 14, 1896 [6] and the Order of St. Vladimir of the 1st degree.

The western tip of the island of Vilcek - Cape Schilling - is named in his honor.
