The Benefactor is an American drama film directed by Andrew Renzi. Starring Richard Gere , Dakota Fanning and Theo James . The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 17, 2015 [3] .

Story
The main character is a philanthropist who, in order to overcome his own despair, sets as his goal to establish relations between a young couple of Olivia and Luke, into which he desperately gets into.

Production
In August 2013, it was announced that Richard Gere would play the role of Francis [4] , and in September 2013 Dakota Fanning and Theo James also joined the project [5] . Filming began on October 21, 2013 in Philadelphia [6] [4] .
Criticism
The film received negative reviews from critics. On the Rotten Tomatoes website, the film scored 29%, with an average rating of 4.4 / 10, selected from 24 comments. The consensus of the site reads: “The film has Richard Gere and Dakota Fanning, but there is no clear idea of what to do with them, resulting in a drama that will never come close to an intriguing potential” [7] . The Metacritic site rated the film 39 out of 100 based on 16 reviews, indicating “unfavorable reviews” [8] .
