History
The club was founded in 1898 as the Erster Wiener Arbeiter-Fußball-Club ("The First Viennese Working Football Club"). The team played in red and blue colors, this version of the form is still often used in away matches. January 8, 1899 the club received a new name Sportklub Rapid Wien , by analogy with Berlin's Rapide Berlin , and in 1904 changed colors to white-green.
Fans
In the sports club "Rapid" there are about 7,000 members and 126 official fan clubs. For the past decades, stadium attendance has steadily increased, and last season it averaged 15,000 spectators per game. The successes of the club and the commitment of its leadership to the traditions positively affect its popularity. Places to the West Stand, which traditionally houses Rapida Ultras, have been completely sold by seasonal season tickets since 2003 . In this regard, the young groups support the team on the opposite, Eastern stand — a situation unique to Austria.
Ultras Rapid 1988 are the oldest and largest of the ultras groups in Austria. It is one of the few groups in Europe that choreographs at every game, and in 2005 was recognized as the best European group by the TIFO organization (Torcida International Fans Organization). Less numerous groups are Tornados Rapid , Green Lions and Lords Rapid ; the latter are located on the East Stand.
Ultras "Rapida" have friendly ties with Ultras " Venice " (Venezia Mestre), " Nuremberg " (Ultras Nurnberg), " Panathinaikos " ( Gate 13 ) and " Ferencváros ".
A well-known tradition: at home games, “Rapid” fans continuously applaud the last 15 minutes. [2] This tradition started in 1939, when the team met with a team from Frankfurt in the finals of the United Germany Championship. For a long time the score of the match remained zero, but in the last 15 minutes, Rapid scored 3 goals. [3]
