“The Fields of Anfield Road” is a popular song among fans of the Liverpool Football Club, performed during breaks in the game. She is one of the team’s most famous songs (along with “ You'll Never Walk Alone ”). The text mentions the legends of Liverpool Bill Shankly , Bob Paisley , Kenny Dalglish and Steve Highway . Performed on the motive " Fields of Athenry ".
In 2009, on the twentieth anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy , another verse dedicated to the dead 96 Liverpool fans was added to the song, and a single was released that featured the legendary Liverpool players ( Kenny Dalglish , Bruce Grobbelar , Alan Kennedy , Howard Gale ) and a family of fans who died during the tragedy.
Usually during a match the song is not performed in its entirety - only the chorus is sung in order to “provoke” the players more.
Text
Outside the shankly gates
I heard a Kopite calling
Shankly they have taken you away
But you left a great eleven
Before you went to heaven
Now it's glory round the Fields of Anfield Road .
All round the fields of anfield road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Steve heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the fields of anfield road
Outside the paisley gates
I heard a Kopite calling
Paisley they have taken you away
You led the great 11
Back in rome in 77
And the redmen they are still playing the same way
All round the fields of anfield road
Where once we watched the King Kenny play (and could he play!)
Steve heighway on the wing
We had dreams and songs to sing
Of the glory round the fields of anfield road
