History
It was first celebrated in the state of New York in 1882 at the initiative of the β Knights of Labor β. In 1894, US Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday. After that, all 50 states made Labor Day an official holiday.
Traditionally, Labor Day in the United States is celebrated by most Americans as a symbolic end to summer; celebrated on the first Monday of September from 1882 . The Labor Day celebration form was proposed as a street parade in 1880, which represents βthe strength and solidarity of trade and trade union organizationsβ, after which a festival is held for workers and their families. The speeches of prominent men and women were introduced later, and the main emphasis was placed on the economic and civil significance of the holiday. But later, by decision of the 1909 American Labor Federation Convention, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday, dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.
A US Department of Labor brochure on Labor Day states: βThis holiday was born out of the movement of American workers. "It has become nationwide because the country considers it due every year to thank with appreciation the contribution that American workers have made and continue to make to the power, wealth and welfare that has become the property of our people .
