Doeberl cup

Doeberl Cup is a traditional chess tournament held annually since 1963 in Canberra . Usually held during Easter .

The tournament is named after the main sponsor, businessman Erich Döberl. After the death of Doberl, the tournament is sponsored by his daughter Rosemary. [one]

The tournament is a chess competition with shortened time control and is held according to the Swiss system for two days off.

Usually a large number of chess players participate in a tournament, which the organizers divide into 4 classes. World-class chess players regularly participate in the upper class tournament. The record holder for the number of victories in the tournament is Grandmaster J. Rogers , who single-handedly won or shared 1st place in 12 tournaments.

The largest number of times the tournament was attended by Lloyd Fell, who did not miss a single tournament from 1963 to 2008. [2]
