History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded on July 2, 1744 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the northern part of the department, within the Caribbean lowland , at a distance of approximately 27 kilometers northeast of the city of Cartagena , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 46 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Santa Catalina borders in the south with the territories of the municipalities of Clemensia and Villanueva , in the west with the municipality of Cartagena, in the east with the territory of the Atlantic department, in the north it is washed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea . The area of the municipality is 153 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 13 169 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 51.2% of the population of Santa Catalina, women - 48.8%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos made up 86.6% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raisals - 13.4% [4] . The literacy rate among the entire population was 86.6%.
Economics
The economy of Santa Catalina is based on agriculture , fisheries, aquaculture , tourism and mining [1] .
49.6% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 45.2% are service enterprises, 4.8% are industrial enterprises, 0.4% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transport
National Highway 90 passes through the city ( Spanish: Ruta Nacional 90 ).
