History

In 1926, the Department of Local Economy (OMX) decided to build a hotel (Business House) next to the City Trade Building. A closed competition was announced in which Moscow architects participated - S. E. Chernyshev (designed the Main Building of Moscow State University ), I. A. Golosov and D. F. Fridman, the project of which was approved "as the most interesting for outdoor processing."

It was originally planned that the house will be built on the same line with other buildings standing on Red Avenue . However, some planners - the first of them railway engineer V.G.Safonov - suggested moving the building inland to create a parking area near it. To resolve the dispute, a subcommittee of six people was organized, which included engineer V.P. Breidenbach (future fountain builder in Pervomaisky Square ), K. E. Tsakni, Dr. A. A. Itskovich, Goldenberg, Rodyukov, I. I. Zagrivko , after which it was decided to build the building indented from the red line of the avenue.

Then Zagrivko spoke at the plenary session of the planning commission at the City Council, at which his redevelopment project was approved with a building spacing of 29 fathoms, due to which the modern appearance of Lenin Square was formed.

The building was erected in 1926-1928 according to the project of the architect D.F. Fridman, as well as according to the working drawings of the architect I. A. Burlakov [1] .

Description

The main eastern facade of the building faces Lenin Square, the north - Lenin Street , the western facade faces the Central Hotel, the southern facade is located opposite Pervomaisky Square.

The building is four-story rectangular on a rubble strip foundation in the form of a closed square with a courtyard, inside which there is a passage. Over time, outbuildings adapted to the new features appeared in the courtyard. There is a basement under the building.

The house consists of a transverse frame, a monolithic reinforced concrete beam and a slab.

Bearing brick walls act as external pillars. The brick basement does not stand out from the plane of the facade.

The walls of the building are lined with stone-like stucco " under Buchard ."

The building has a gable roof. The metal roof communicates with the external gutter.

The composition of the main facade is symmetrical, its central part protrudes forward at the level of the first and third floors and is flanked by small rectangular balconies and with a light metal fence.

Three slightly rising volumes of stairwells accent the southeast, northwest and northeast corners and give the building a stepped silhouette.

The windows on the first floor continue with large trihedral bay windows on the second.

On the main facade there are two side entrances, they are distinguished by small volumes.

Basement, first and second floors were designed specifically for public functions.

The building retained its original interior: ceiling stucco rods, post-beam structure, floor with square ceramic and octagonal tiles, parquet [1] .
