The online version featured a Stan Lee cameo who praised Deadpool's costume, which Deadpool swore at.

Story

When Wade Wilson walked down the street and listened to music, in a nearby lane the bandit began to rob the old man. Wade decides to help and runs to the telephone booth to change into Deadpool's costume while calling costume designer Alerd (he was not there, and Deadpool asked the film operator who picked up the phone to tell him that Deadpool was calling). Suddenly, a shot is heard and Deadpool runs to the rescue, but is late, so he lies down next to the corpse and begins to chat with him. On the credits, the redone plot of Ernest Hemingway's “ Old Man and the Sea ” is scrolled.

Production

David Litch shot a scene featuring Ryan Reynolds for the first Deadpool movie in December 2016, which was believed to be intended for the scene after the credits of the movie Logan . This meant a mockery of the movie Deadpool 2 [2] , for which Litch was hired to film it [3] . However, these allegations were rejected by Reynolds, director of Logan, James Mangold and Hugh Jackman [2] . After the duration of “Logan” was extended by three minutes shortly before its release, new assumptions appeared that the scene after the credits was added to tease the upcoming X-Men film [4] , but Mangold denied this again, stating that he wanted to "create a film that began and ended on his own terms." There was nothing more to say [5] . Instead, the Deadpool scene was shown as a teaser for Deadpool 2 before Logan [6] , a confirmed scene shot by Litch in December 2016 [7] . The short script was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick , who wrote the script for the first Deadpool movie [8] .

After the initial release, Reese quickly explained that the scene was not an official trailer for Deadpool 2, and none of his videos should appear in this film, but instead was a standalone short film that serves as a "tonal teaser for" Deadpool 2 “” [9] [10] . Two slightly different versions were created with the intention of giving “movie theater viewers and Internet users somewhat different pleasures” [11] . For an online release, Reynolds simply entitled the short film “No Good Deeds” [12] . In this version, Stan Lee appeared in his traditional cameo [13] .

A short parody of Superman with the theme of John Williams from the 1978 film , only instead of Clark, Wilson dressed up as a superhero in a phone booth [14] . It was noted that the camera work was different from the style that director Tim Miller used for the first film, about which Wernick said: “Each director brings his own materials,” and they wrote his style. The scriptwriters wanted the opening of the short film to close, like the opening of Logan, “so if you are going to see Logan, and you thought it would be Hugh Jackman in the hood, and then when he turns out to be Deadpool, you understand what will happen farther". They described the short as absurd: “This is probably something that doesn't fit into the film. It will not work in the logic of the film, but Deadpool gives us the opportunity to break the rules ... the tone can be more absurd if we feel that it is funny. That was our goal. ” [8] In the short film, there were several references to Logan: a movie poster was shown in front of the theater; and Deadpool mimics Jackman's Australian accent. [15] At the end of the short film, an obvious book report that summarizes Ernest Hemingway's “Old Man and the Sea” and, it would seem, Deadpool is quickly displayed in a text scan [16] [17] . This was interpreted as an allusion to Logan, and this film focuses on old characters [16] .

Release

“No Good Deeds” was shown in front of Logan at theaters in North America starting March 3, 2017 [5] [18] , circulated by 20th Century Fox [4] . The short film was only approved for theatrical release in India by designation, because the look at Reynolds' buttocks in the short film when Wilson changed into his Deadpool costume was blurred by the windows of the telephone box [19] . Reynolds released an online version of the short on YouTube on March 4 [12] with a video description [17] . Within 48 hours, the video gained more than 12 million views [20] .

Criticism

Chris Cabin at the Collider website called the short film “Dark and Funny” and compared it to Saturday Night Live . He thought it was a smart move from Fox to release “what fans love” about the first film to alleviate fears and rumors after replacing Miller with Lynch [21] .

Among the fans there was speculation that the murdered old man at a short age might be Ben Parker , in character with Spider-Man , whom the robber killed. In speculation, it was noted that the old man was killed short, and the fact that he carries Ben & Jerry's ice cream [22] [15] . In response, Lynch “vaguely” said: “This is a really interesting question.” [22]
