History
Construction began in 1832. On February 7, 1835, the southern chapel was consecrated in the name of St. Basil the Great. On September 7, 1841, the main temple was consecrated in the name of the martyrs Flora and Laurus. In 1869, the construction of the northern aisle began, the aisle was consecrated on January 25, 1871 in the name of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Mirliki [3] .
In 1937, the church was closed and returned to the Russian Orthodox Church only in 1991. Since 2003, restoration work has been underway in the temple [3]
Architecture
The volumetric and spatial composition of the building is centric, in the form of a stepped pyramid, similar to the composition of the Vvedensky church in Travyansky village. In the center of the cruciform volume of the church rises a two-colored temple quadrangle , blocked by four slopes with a curved roof with lucarnas on the sides and a light lamp at the top. Rectangular volumes adjacent to the faces of the quadrangle are branches of the cruciform plan: the eastern branch of the cross was intended for the main altar; in the northern and southern branches of the cross there were chapel temples. The volume, which forms the western branch of the cross, is higher than the others; it serves as the porch and the base for the bell tower. The cylindrical ring tier volume is cut through by four arches, has a square base (pedestal) and is covered by a dome with a spire [4] .
The front decoration of the church is mean. The walls of the altar and aisles are devoid of decorative details, only high windows and niches located above them divide their surface. The planes of the facades of the temple quadrangle are cut in the center by triple windows, secured by pylons in the corners and finished vertically with a cornice slab on the modulons. The forms of decorative details on the facades (modulons, archivolts) are simplified and distorted by craftsmanship. The type of tetrahedral “cubical” roof by lucarnes is borrowed from the architecture of temples of the Baroque period. The interior of the temple is divided into separate rooms with triple arcades installed in the span of the spring arches. A closed vault in the center of the temple and cylindrical vaults in adjacent rooms rest on the walls and form a plan of the shape of an equilateral cross [4]
