Baltika (enterprise)

The Tallinn Production Sewing Association “Baltika” ( Estonian Tallinna Õmblustootmiskoondis “Baltika” ) is a large sewing enterprise in Soviet Estonia .

Company History

According to the website of the successor company of the Baltika Group concern, the year the company was born is 1928 , when the Gentlmen company was founded on the initiative of Haim Karshenstein in Tallinn on Veerenni quarter of Veerenni [1] . According to the encyclopedic reference published in 1979, the year the company was founded was 1960 , when the Baltika sewing factory was established, and a new production building was built in Tallinn on Veerenni [2] . In 1970, the company became known as the Baltika Sewing Production Association of Tallinn. The association included the Valga Sewing Factory. In 1971, the Virulane garment factory ( Virulane ) became part of the association.

After Estonia separated from the Soviet Union, in 1991, by decision of the Supreme Council of the Estonian SSR, the enterprise was privatized by a joint-stock company created by its employees [3] . This year can be considered the year of liquidation of the Soviet production association Baltika [4] .

Production Activities

Baltika Baltika Sewing Production Association produced men's and women's outerwear ( suits , coats , fur coats , jackets ), school clothes for boys, children's and women's trousers [2] .

The association had production sites in Antsla , Akhtme , Viljandi , Keila-Joa , Kunda , Tapa and Tyrva [2] .

In 1978, 161,200 suits and 286,700 coats were released. [2]

On January 1, 1979 the number of employees of the association was 3265 people [2] .

Director since 1961 and CEO since 1974 was Benjamin Mordkovich Pivnik [2] .

  • 1971 - Kutsesobivuse katsed Baltikas / Proficiency tests at Baltika, director Toivo Kuzmin - Testing professional suitability before hiring people.
