Historically, this was the representative of the Crown for the management of estates, the personal property of the British Royal House, and located mainly in the county of Lancashire . The separation of the duchy of Lancaster from other crown lands followed in the reign of Henry IV ; since then it has had independent administration and even its own special courts.
Currently, in fact, the range of issues addressed by the person holding this position is not outlined. It can be said that this post is a sinecure for politicians, whose political weight no longer affects government affairs, but which retain respect and respect. Their only clearly established duty is to appoint the magistrates of the kingdom.
