Shashechnitsa intermittent [1] ( Melitaea interrupta ) is a species of diurnal butterflies of the genus Shashechnitsa ( Melitaea ) of the Nymphalidae family (Nymphalidae). The length of the front wing 17-23 mm.

Name etymology
Interrupta (from Latin) - βdiscontinuedβ, βbrokenβ. The name is given by the characteristic color of the underside of the rear wing. [1] .
Area
Northeastern Turkey , Northern Iran , Transcaucasia , the Greater Caucasus .
In Russia, it inhabits the east of the Krasnodar Territory and Adygea , the south of the Stavropol Territory , the mountains of Karachay-Cherkessia , Elbrus region and the eastern tip of the Main Range of the Greater Caucasus.
Butterflies inhabit subalpine and forb meadows at an altitude of 1,200 to 2,350 meters above sea level [1] .
Biology
Develops in one generation for the year. Butterflies fly at the end of June-beginning of August. Females lay eggs on the underside of leaves of 30-50 pieces. The butterflies feed on the inflorescences of the mountaineer ( Polygonum ), gentian ( Genista ), various norichnikovyh and legumes . Males often accumulate in large groups, sometimes up to 50-60 specimens, on puddles by mountain roads. Caterpillar fodder plants: violet ( Viola sp.), Plantain ( Plantago ), catnip ( Nepeta sp.). Caterpillars feed on the leaves of the food plant. Caterpillars of the first or third ages are kept in groups, but, unlike other types of drafts, they do not make silk nests. Caterpillar winters 2-3 years old. After wintering lead a single lifestyle. They pupate on the stems of plants. The pupae stage lasts 10β12 days [1] .
