Brodzky, Victor Petrovich

Victor Petrovich Brodzky ( Polish: Wiktor Brodzki ; 1826 , Okhotovets, Volyn province , Russian Empire - October 9, 1904 , Rome , Italy ) - Polish sculptor , academician and professor of sculpture at the Imperial Academy of Arts .

Biography

 
Sleeping angel

Since 1848, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg under the direction of I.P. Vitali , and already in 1849 a copy from the Laocoon group and his sons appeared at the academic exhibition.

In 1853, V. Brodzky received a small gold medal for the round statue of the resting Adonis fashioned by him, according to the program. Then he created a bas-relief bust of the Grand Duchess Alexandra Iosifovna and a bust of the composer A. Kontsky . At his own expense he went abroad, but was soon awarded the guesthouse for four years, at the special request of the then President of the Academy, Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna .

In 1861 he received the title of academician for sculptural figures: "Cupid sleeping and waking up" and "Marshmallow swinging on a branch." In 1868 he received the title of professor for his works: “Marble Camel”, the group “First Love” and “Escape from Pompeii”. Since 1868 he was an honorary professor of IAH.

Having finally settled abroad, V. Brodzky lived in Rome for about 30 years and almost never participated in exhibitions since 1870.

Died in Rome. He was buried in the cemetery of Campo Verano .

During his artistic career he performed many works of marble and bronze , about thirty monuments , statues and sculptural groups, up to sixty-five busts and medallions .

Of particular note are the monuments:

  • Monument to engineer Krasovsky in Lausanne,
  • Mazaraki Monument in Warsaw,
  • Monument of Mauritius Poniatowski in Granov,
  • Monument to the mother of the artist.

From among the statues:

  • “The first pain” is a statue of a fisherwoman with a cancer clawed in her left finger,
  • bronze group " Jan Sobieski near Vienna",
  • bronze group “Savior blessing the world”;
  • marble statue “Marshmallows swinging on a branch” (in the Hermitage );
  • "Sleeping Cupid";
  • “Marble Camel” with a group of three boys and ornaments in the Cinquecento style (in the Hermitage );
  • "First declaration of love"
  • marble group " Leda and the Swan ";
  • “ Crucifixion ” - from a single block of marble 2 m high;
  • “Madonna del Globo”, made of marble 2 m high, is in the Vatican Museum;
  • statue of copernicus .

Brodsky’s works are distinguished by their taste, classical regularity of form and expressiveness.
