Biography

Ashrafyan Levon Andreevich was born on June 12, 1952 in the city of Batumi in the family of an employee.

In 1969, after graduating from Russian secondary school No. 8, Batumi entered the medical faculty of the Stavropol State Medical Institute, which he graduated in 1975 .

While still studying at the institute, L. A. Ashrafyan was an active member of the biochemical circle, carried away by the problems of oncology (experiments with carcinogenic compounds) and molecular biology (studying the properties of histone). From the 3rd year he actively attended night shifts in the General Surgery Clinic, where he took part in emergency surgical interventions. At the end of the 3rd year he was entrusted with performing simple operations (appendectomy, hernia repair).

At that time, he was thinking of devoting his life to surgery. However, the internship had to take place at the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology, which was the reason for the distribution of obstetrician-gynecologist in the specialty. At the place of distribution, there was no place of work in the maternity hospital, and he was sent to the oncology clinic in the Department of Oncogynecology. From this moment, his professional career in oncogynecology began.

L. A. Ashrafyan considers Professor Natalia Ivanovna Shuvaeva, the head of the gynecological and gynecological department of the Moscow Research Cancer Institute named after L.A. Ashrafyan, to be her first teacher in the profession. P. A. Herzen , where from 1976 to 1978 he passed clinical residency. At that time, such prominent oncologists as professors I. S. Kraevskaya, Z. V. Golbert, N. I. Nikitina, M. A. Volkova, V. V. Gorodilova, Yu. Ya. Gritsman, A. I worked at the institute Pirogov, corresponding member. RAMS B.E. Peterson. All of them and many other employees of the institute have become mentors and educators in such a complex profession as oncology. Along with them, the works of prominent domestic and foreign scientists (I.V. Davydovsky, S.F. Glazunov, L.A. Zilber, R.Virkhov, I.Kongeym and others) had a huge influence.

A special creative friendship began to take shape with prof. Yu. V. Varshavsky and prof. J. W. Bohman. Yuri Viktorovich was the head of the dissertation, and Yan Vladimirovich subsequently became a consultant to the doctoral dissertation.

After graduate school, majoring in radiology and radiology, in 1981 he defended his Ph.D. thesis, and in 1989 - his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Standardized Diagnosis of Endometrial Cancer”, where at that time the clinical and morphological criteria of microinvasive endometrial cancer were substantiated and its principles were proposed early diagnosis and treatment.

From 1982 to 1986 - a junior researcher at the Department of Oncogynecology, Moscow P.A. Herzen .

Since 1986 - Senior Researcher at the Moscow Scientific Research X-ray and Radiological Institute of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

In 1995, prof. L. A. Ashrafyan organized and headed the department of combined methods for the treatment of gynecological diseases of the same institute (later the Russian Scientific Center for Radiology and Radiology ).

In 2011, Professor L. A. Ashrafyan was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and in 2016 he was elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. [one]

Under the guidance of academician L. A. Ashrafyan, 7 doctoral and 34 master's theses were defended. He is the author of more than 300 works in domestic and foreign print publications, 6 monographs, and many chapters in manuals.

L. A. Ashrafyan has been dealing with the problems of prevention and early diagnosis of cancer of reproductive organs for many years. He formed the concept of microinvasive cancer of the uterus.

Along with this, he was one of the first to express and actively pursue the idea of combined and extended surgical interventions for locally advanced malignant processes, as well as relapses of gynecological cancer with the wide use of various neoadjuvant measures (chemotherapy, radiation therapy, embolization, etc.).

In recent years, under his leadership, research has been launched on the oncological aspects of postmenopause and the molecular biological factors of carcinogenesis, pathogenetic, targeted prevention of cancer of reproductive organs. Close cooperation with biochemists, geneticists, molecular biologists to a large extent formed a number of key positions regarding the early carcinogenesis of the primary tumor, the mechanism of its progression and the development of “metastatic disease”, which fundamentally changed approaches to the treatment of cancer patients and marked the real primary prevention and prevention of relapse.

The main credo, on which academician L. A. Ashrafyan builds his professional activity: “Oncology is a creative profession. Here, knowledge, doubt, experience, patience, mercy, despair, love and faith are interwoven. Every day there is a search, knowledge, the desire to do everything as true and effective as possible. ”

Academician L. A. Ashrafyan is a member of the Association of Oncologists of Russia , the Russian Association of Obstetricians-Gynecologists, the Russian Association of Radiologists-Radiologists, the European Association of Gynecologists-Oncologists, the American Association of Gynecologists-Endoscopists, a member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Center for Psychology, the Member of the Dissertation Council of the Scientific Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and perinatology of the Ministry of Health of Russia, a member of the editorial boards of several journals.

For the first time in Russia in 2017, he organized and headed the Institute of Oncogynecology and Mammology, which is part of the National Medical Research Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology named after Academician V.I. Kulakov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation , where Academician L.A. Ashrafyan holds the position of Deputy Director of the Center. Today, under the leadership of L. A. Ashrafyan, research is being conducted on the problems of “Cancer and Pregnancy,” “Reproductive options in patients who underwent treatment for cancer,” “Large-scale prevention and large-scale screening of cancer of reproductive organs.” The introduction of new developments is facilitated by the Russian Society of Specialists in the Prevention and Treatment of Tumors of Reproductive Organs (ROSORS), created by academicians L. A. Ashrafyan.

He is a member of the editorial board of a number of journals: Oncogynecology , Tumors of the female reproductive system , Obstetrics and Gynecology , Obstetrics, Gynecology, Reproduction , Medical Imaging . For a long time prof. L. A. Ashrafyan is a consultant to the Central Design Bureau of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation .

Professor L. A. Ashrafyan is characterized by high efficiency, a sense of responsibility to patients, honesty and conscientiousness in fulfilling the duties assigned to him, which allows him to enjoy the well-deserved authority and respect of the center staff and patients.

For successes in clinical and scientific work, he was repeatedly awarded with diplomas of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, and in 2004, by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation L. A. Ashrafyan was awarded the honorary title “ Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation ”.
