Group History
Atomic Rooster was formed in late 1969 after the departure of organist Vincent Crane and drummer Carl Palmer from The Crazy World of Arthur Brown . The debut album, named Atomic Roooster (the third letter O was deliberately put [3] ), was recorded in December 1969 - January 1970, was released in February 1970 and in June reached the 49th place in Britain. This album was recorded with bass guitarist Nick Graham and drummer Carl Palmer, Crane played guitar and vocals in addition to keyboards.
Soon, Graham and Palmer left the band, and Crane invited the singing guitarist John Du Cann ( John Du Cann ) and drummer Paul Hammond ( Paul Hammond ) [4] . The second album, Death Walks Behind You , recorded by this line-up, from which the single "Tomorrow Night" (# 11 UK) came out, was released in September 1970 and brought the group the first serious success (the album reached # 12 UK and # 90 US). This success was reinforced by the hit single "Devil's Answer" (# 4 UK) and the third album In Hearing of Atomic Rooster (# 18 UK and # 167 US), created with the participation of vocalist Pete French from the group Cactus .
After that, the band broke up again, and again Crane (retaining the right to name) scored a new lineup of musicians: Chris Farlow (vocals), Steve Bolton (guitar), Bill Smith (bass), Rick Parnell (drums). The last two albums were recorded with them: Made In England (which had only relative success in America - 149th place) and Nice'n'Greasy .
Later, Crane resurrected the Atomic Rooster several times without much success, participated in the Dexys Midnight Runners and the Katmandu supergroup formed by Peter Green from Fleetwood Mac . On February 14, 1989, Vincent Crane, who suffered from a mental disorder and was often depressed, committed suicide by taking an overdose of medications.
