On March 12, 2008, ICANN received a letter from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration , the content of which was that since the Outer Small Islands are under U.S. jurisdiction , the issue of assigning this territory to a top-level domain should be decided by the United States government. In addition, the letter contained recommendations stating that, if necessary, future delegation of the .um domain should be consulted with the US government on this issue.
The .um domain is currently deleted [2] .
