Geographical position
Borough is located in Clarion County, 124 km northeast of Pittsburgh on the Allegany Plateau . According to the US Census Bureau, Clarion has an area of 4.19 square kilometers.
History
Clarion was founded in 1839 because of the need to create a city-district center for Clarion County. In the spring of 1840, people began to come to the village and a post office was opened. By 1841, already 714 people lived in the city. Clarion was incorporated as borough in 1841 [1] .

According to the 2010 census, the population of Clarion was 5,276 people (of which 43.7% were men and 56.3% were women), the city had 1,812 households and 2,403 families. In the city there were 1972 buildings with an average density of 470.6 buildings per square kilometer of land. Racial composition : white - 91.0%, African Americans - 5.0%, Asians - 1.9%, Native Americans - 0.1%. 1.0% are of Hispanic origin [2] .
The population of the city by age range according to the 2010 census was as follows: 10.3% - residents under 18 years old, 31.2% - between 18 and 21 years old, 46.9% - from 21 to 65 years old and 11.6% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 22.0 years. For every 100 women in Clarion, there are 77.8 men, while for 100 adult women there are already 76.0 men of comparable age [2] .
Of the 1812 households, 36.5% were families: 24.9% of couples living together (8.8% with children under 18 years of age); 8.3% are women living without husbands and 3.4% are men living without wives. 63.5% did not have a family. On average, 2.11 people conduct households, and the average family size is 2.78 people. Alone, 37.3% of the population lived, 12.5% were single elderly people (over 65) [2] .
Economics
In 2016, out of 4,515 people over 16 years old, 2253 had jobs. At the same time, men had a median income of $ 34,671 per year, compared to $ 49,417 of the average annual income for women. In 2016, the median income for a family was estimated at $ 53,542, for a household - at $ 27,372. The per capita income is $ 18,898 a year. 22.4% of the total number of families in Clarion and 36.1% of the total population were below the poverty line at the time of the census [2] .
