ISO 4 is an international ISO standard that defines a unified system for reducing the names of periodicals, namely scientific journals. The standard is intended to create correct and reliable scientific and technical references and is widely used in scientific databases. The last update of the standard was made by the International Center ISSN in December 1997 (third edition - ISO 4: 1997) [1] .

The International Organization for Standardization has designated the International ISSN Center (the International Standard Serial Number International Center ) as the registration authority for ISO 4 [2] .
List of LTWA Abbreviations
The ISSN International Center maintains a list of abbreviations "LTWA" ( English List of Title Word Abbreviations , from English - "a list of abbreviations of words in titles"), containing standard abbreviations of words that are often found in journal headings [3] . LTWA contains more than 56,000 words and their abbreviations in 65 languages [3] .
Rules and examples of abbreviations
For example, in accordance with ISO 4 standards, the Journal of Polymer Science is abbreviated to J. Polym. Sci. , Journal of Schizophrenia Bulletin to Schizophr. Bull.
