“Mayatul” ( meadowoumar . “Mayatul” - fire stored in the hearth, unquenchable hearth ; fin. “Majatuli” ) is an international festival of theaters of Finno-Ugric peoples .

General characteristics
It originated in the 1990s as one of a number of theater festivals based on the principle of linguistic community. Since 1997, it has been called Mayatul. The root of this word “tul” (“fire”) is common to all Finno-Ugric languages (cf. meadow mar. Tul , mountain trail , rear , north-western mart . Tel , erz. Tol , komi rear , fin. Tuli , Hungarian tűz , s.-Saami dolla [1] ). From the same year the headquarters of the festival is Yoshkar-Ola .
Venues
Festival I - 1992
It was held from March 26 to April 2, 1992 in Izhevsk . Theaters from Karelia , Komi , Mari El , Mordovia , Udmurtia , Komi-Perm National District , as well as Finland and Estonia took part in the work. The Grand Prix of the festival was awarded the performance of the Mari National Theater. M. Shketana "Pyzhash" ( A.I. Pudin "Outbreak").
Festival II - 1994
Held in June 1994 in Nurmese (Finland). Among the best performances were the one-man show of the Udmurt Theater “Ebga”, “Hungarian Electra” of the Avisura Theater ( Budapest ), “Oksa Tul” (“Glitter of Coins”) of the Mari National Theater. M. Shketana. Starting from this festival, prizes have not been awarded.
Festival III - 1997
9 theaters from Karelia, Komi, Mordovia, Udmurtia, Komi-Perm Autonomous Okrug, Finland and Estonia took part in the 3rd festival ( October 17-23, 1997 , Yoshkar-Ola). Mari theater was represented by 2 theaters: the Mari National Theater. M. Shketana and the Mariinsky Theater of the Young Spectator . Among the best performances, the jury noted the drama of RG Mustonen “Where is your home, angel?” Of the National Theater of the Republic of Karelia , the drama of A.I. Pudin “Oh, lui modeish ...” (“Oh, a marten plays ...”) Mari National Theater. M. Shketana and E. Linden "Jumping Mouse" Theater "Phoenix" (Finland). At the closing of the festival, a performance by the Mari National Theater named after them. M. Shketana “Kalevala” staged by Finnish director Paavo Liski .
The festival included the International Conference of Theater Workers “Finno-Ugric Theaters and the World Theater Process”. In its resolution, the emergence of the community of theaters of Finno-Ugric peoples was regarded as an outstanding phenomenon in the history of the cultures of these peoples.
Festival IV - 2002
At the 4th International Festival ( November 15-23, 2002 ), the Finno-Ugric community represented 9 drama groups from Russia and the theater from Estonia. This festival was dedicated to national drama. Among the best works of the festival are the legend “The Wife of a Deer” (directed by A. Turnpu, the theater of Rakvere , Estonia), the musical and dramatic fantasy of S. and A. Gorchakovs “The Hunting Lodge” (directed by S. Gorchakov, the Theater of Folklore of the Komi Republic ), and A. Radostev's eccentric comedy “Guzi and Mezi” (directed by S. Meshchangin, Komi-Permyatskiy District Drama Theater ).
V Festival - 2004
The 5th Mayatul Festival ( November 19 - 28, 2004 ) brought together representatives of the entire Finno-Ugric world community: 10 theaters from Karelia, Komi, Mari El, Mordovia, Udmurtia, Komi-Permyak and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Districts , and Eva Kanalas Voice Theater (Hungary), Phoenix Theater (Finland) and a performance by students of the Estonian Academy of Music and High Theater School. In addition, the repertoire of the 5th festival included performances by the laureates of the electronic festival of ethno-art “Kugu sorts” (“The Big Candle”). Among the best innovative works at the festival were the performances “Creation of the World” of the National Theater of the Republic of Karelia, “White Sails and Skyboats” of the Higher Theater School of the Estonian Academy of Music and the psychological drama of G. Gordeyev “Kuvan Kenenezh” (“Indian Summer”) of the Mariysky Theater of the Young Spectator . The festival included a conference entitled “The State of the Theater Process in Russia and the Problems of the Development of Finno-Ugric Drama” and a seminar of playwrights.
