David Davidson ( born David Davidson ; 08/21/1854, Stockholm - 03/18/1942, Uppsala , Sweden ) is a Swedish economist , professor of economics and financial law at Uppsala University .

Biography

David was born on August 21, 1854 in the family of the merchant Isaac Isaakovich Davidson (1816, Altona , Hamburg - 1891) and mother Rebecca Stabel (born in 1822, , Frankfurt ). Parents got married in 1849 and moved to Stockholm , they had nine children. In the family, David was the third child and the eldest of the brothers. In 1861-1867 he studied at the Mosaic School in Stockholm, and in 1871-1871 at the Stockholm Gymnasium [5] .

In 1871, David entered Uppsala University , where in 1872 he received a bachelor of arts degree, and in 1877 he successfully defended his bachelor 's degree in law (LL.B.) [5] .

Lecturer of economics in 1877-1889, assistant professor in 1888-1889, extraordinary professor in 1889-1890 at Uppsala University . He was awarded the rank of full professor in 1890, and on September 16, 1919, becoming an professor of economics and financial law at Uppsala University , he resigned [5] .

Since 1920 he was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences , founder and editor of in 1899-1938, a member of the since 1906 [5] .

On March 18, 1942, David Davidson passed away [5] .

For his achievements he was repeatedly awarded [5] :

  • 1885 - Honorary member of the ;
  • 1893 - Honorary Doctor of Law at Uppsala University ;
  • 1899 - Knight of the Order of the North Star ;
  • 1911 - Commander of the Order of the North Star ;
  • 1912 - Söderströmsta gold medal from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences "for merit in economic research";
  • 1917 - Honorary Doctor of Uppsala University ;
  • 1928 - First Class Commander of the Order of the North Star .
