Ozhsk or Already a city in the Principality of Ryazan , mentioned in the Laurentian Chronicle in connection with the campaign of Vsevolod the Big Nest in 1207 . The exact location of the city is not known for certain. It seems that Ozhsk fell into decay as a result of the Batu invasion .
Most historians, beginning with Karamzin , believed that it was located on the Oka [1] . N.I. Nadezhdin and K.A. Nevolin associated its name with the river Vozha and identified it with the Mitinsky settlement at the confluence of the Vozha in the Oka. D.I. Ilovaysky suggested that Ozhsk was located between Staraya Ryazan and Lgov (Olgov), near the modern village of Vyshhorod [2] , A.N. Nasonov and M.N. Tikhomirov held the same opinion.
However, A. L. Mongayt pointed out that there were no sufficient grounds to believe that Ozhsk was on the Oka. Based on the events described in the Lavrentievsky Chronicle, Ozhsk was located between Pronsky and Olgov, of which there were two in the Principality of Ryazan - the current village of Lgovo , on the Oka, and Novy Olgov in the mouth of Pron . According to Mongite, the Lavrentievsky Chronicle refers to the latter, and Ozhsk, therefore, was also located on Prona . According to the author, this is the Stolpiansky fortification [1] .
